Typically I find tequila the perfect drink for one of my many shot glasses but when Shellie and the girls are over I need something a bit sweeter for their ladylike palates. But you know me, I can’t just leave a Tequila Sunrise at the basic old recipe!
So I’ve added a few twists that I think you’ll enjoy. If not, skip everything but the tequila and the jalapeno and shoot it back like its Spring Break 1999!
2 shots Tequila (I prefer silver but hey, go with what ya love!)
Orange juice – just a dash
2 dashes Grenadine syrup
2-4 Jalapeno slices (optional)
Ice (crushed not cubed)
- Pour tequila in a highball glass filled with ice and top with orange juice (or blood orange juice if you’re feelin’ fancy!). Stir gently.
- Add grenadine by tilting glass and pouring grenadine down the side by flipping the bottle vertically very quickly. The grenadine should go straight to the bottom and then rise up slowly through the drink.
- Garnish with jalapeno slice and orange triangle.
- Add a bit more spice by rubbing a slice of jalapeno on the rim.
This works perfectly as an afternoon (or midnight) drink for the sake of drinking. But if you’re entertaining then use this instead of margaritas with a Mexican themed meal!
