THEIR MARRIAGE OF CONVENIENCE…
For years, Lady Melloria Whitmore has believed her childhood best friend and secret love Brigham Clarke agreed to marry her out of a sense of duty. Knowing how important Brigham’s work with Parliament is to him, she agrees to see him once a year, when he returns to his country estate for the holidays. This Christmas, Mellie vows to give Brigham the one thing he has always wanted: an heir. For one night, she’ll share his bed, and she’ll have that memory of passion to get her through the long winter nights without him.
IS ABOUT TO BECOME A MARRIAGE OF LOVE.
Except Brigham doesn’t want just one night—he wants forever. He’s loved Mellie all his life, and making her his Viscountess Whitmore was his dream. He just never thought Mellie returned his feelings. So when Mellie begins her seduction under the Christmastide moon, Brigham receives the best gift of all: his wife’s love.
It’s been far too long since my last historical romance but Bedded Under the Christmastide Moon by Christina McKnight was the perfect little snack to remind me why I have so many waiting to be red on my Kindle!
Mellie (that’s Lady Melloria Whitmore, to you) is in a bit of a pickle. Her father dad after a long bout of illness, leaving her and her very ill mother at the mercy of her cousin, the new Lord of the manor who isn’t too keen to take care of a young woman and a sick old lady. Leaving Mellie but one choice; accept the marriage offer by her close friend who also happens to be the man who holds her heart.
But the marriage isn’t at all what it’s cracked up to be, or what Mellie and Brigham had hoped. She lives in the country and he lives in the city.
But after years and years of this (which we don’t get to see because…novella!!!) both have grown tired of it and this is where it gets wickedly juicy!
Bedded Under the Christmastide Moon is pretty much perfect in execution. There’s just enough misunderstanding to make the story interesting without forcing too many eyerolls. There is a lot to love about this short story, so much that I devoured it late one night in no time at all.
When it comes to seducing one’s husband, there’s no time like the Christmastide Moon, at least according to Lady Mellie!
