Romance Book Review!! ~ Loved You Once by Claudia Burgoa

After a week off the grid, I finally get reception and the first voicemail I hear stuns me.
“You’re summoned to Baker’s Creek by the late William Tower Aldridge.”

Twelve Years.
It’s been twelve years since the last time I heard from the Aldridge family.
That one voicemail changes everything—I need the money the late William offers.
In exchange, I have to live eighteen months in Baker’s Creek.
I’ve survived cancer, the jungle, and the plague.
This should be easy compared to all that, right?
Or so I think until…I see him.
Confident, charismatic, bitter, sexy as hell, Doctor Hayes Benjamin Aldrige.
My first love, my first kiss—my late husband’s brother.
He hates me.
He still hasn’t forgiven me for walking out on him, and I can’t blame him. It’s been over ten years, and I still have feelings for him.
But I faked it once and I can fake it twice.
I can survive eighteen months and that’ll be the last time I see the Aldridge brothers.

Isn’t it?

I’m a sucker for a second chance romance and Blaire & Hayes’s story was full of ALL the emotions. He was angry at her for (seemingly) valid reasons and she was made at him for actual reasons so coming together a second time wasn’t a smooth ride.

Throw in the whole complications of Hayes and his brothers and their meddling father, and well this book was an entertaining, hot and emotional journey.

This is book 1 in the The Baker’s Creek Brothers series, which features lots of brothers and their mothers, tons of heartache and a whole lotta money.

The story itself was good. I enjoyed it from beginning to end but I will say that it took me a good long while to warm up to Hayes, who I thought came on too strong at the beginning and it came off as arrogant and creepy rather than cocky and romantic. Dude had a lot to make up for and he seemed annoyed Blaire didn’t just hop on board, even though she did too soon in my opinion.

I really did like this story a lot. The brothers with their complicated past, Blaire with her…EVERYTHING. It was a lot at first but I jumped right in and I was here for it. And then Hayes came in like a bulldozer and I was totally put off by it. Completely. I didn’t enjoy the way he went from zero to one million in the blink of an eye and expected Blaire to do the same.
It was presumptuous and I didn’t like it so it took me a good long while to warm up to him. But when he decided he wanted to be worthy of not just Blaire but his brothers, he got to me. I love these foul-mouthed, emotionally damaged brothers and I can’t wait to read the rest!

I’m ready to read the rest of the books because the brothers are too appealing and because I need to know what those letters say!
