BOOK TOUR!! ~ Execution by Lucia Franco

Title: Execution
Series: Off Balance #2
Author: Lucia Franco
Genre: Forbidden Romance Over 18 years
Publication Date: April 23, 2018

The move to World Cup Academy of Gymnastics is the greatest challenge Adrianna has encountered. Punished for Coach Kova’s overwhelming desires, she’s reeling with resentment while she sits out the first meet of the season. As Adrianna fights to regain her focus, he pushes her body to the extreme, leaving her mentally and physically exhausted.

Kova underestimates Adrianna’s endurance, and gravitates more toward her, despite his internal battle raging within to stay away. They try to disentangle themselves, but the tension between coach and gymnast mounts, engulfing them both in a forbidden world of deception and passion.

The one place where they should never feel alive, is where they find complete absolution. But one slip, one wrong landing, a missed grip, and everything they built can come tumbling down, damaging both their professional and personal lives.
“Tighten up, Adrianna. Squeeze your thighs and butt. Everything needs to be firm so you do not sway. The tighter you hold yourself, the less you fall. You cannot loosen for one second. I do not want to see anything jiggle on you. Keep your focus.” He paused. “By the way, your mother gave me a ring yesterday. Such a lovely woman she is. So caring of her daughter.”
I stopped and looked down at him, letting out a gush of air I hadn’t realized I was holding.
“Uh huh. Start over.”
I ignored him. I couldn’t believe Mom called him. “What did she say?”
“Start over.”
“What did she say, Kova?” I pushed, snapping at him. I probably looked like a psycho to him, but he held firm and wouldn’t speak until I started up again. I huffed under my breath and jumped. Typical Kova. He always had to get his way. My coach was an exasperating man.
“Just that she wanted to know how her precious daughter was doing. I told her you were getting there but still had a long way to go.”
I lowered my eyelids. “Of course you did. What else?”
“She said she was concerned about your diet and wanted to make sure you were eating nutritious meals. She mentioned when you went home for the holidays you let go and ate everything in sight. She wanted to make sure you are not still on that same path. Something about you had to buy new clothes because your old ones did not fit.”
My heartbeat sped up, and my lips parted. The animosity in her words rang like a siren in my head of things she’d said to me that I did wrong in her eyes. Moisture beaded above my top lip. I gripped the jump rope handles tighter, my skin burning against the plastic. I jumped faster and harder.
Kova was still speaking but I only caught the tail end of a few words. I wasn’t processing any of it; all I could focus on was the fact that my mom had called him and fabricated lies and he listened like a good little sheep. She took vindictive to a whole new level and I had to wonder why she was trying in vain to sabotage my gymnastics career. She wanted to ruin me for the sake of ruining me. It was the only plausible reason I could come up with and a side of her I hadn’t yet seen. I was her daughter, she was my mother. I didn’t understand her attitude toward me.
A prickling sting deflated my chest and my breathing grew strenuous. I slowed down until I stopped completely. My arms dropped to my sides, and I stood with one foot positioned slightly in front of the other, staring in a blank trance at nothing but feeling everything.
A muffled cry burst from my lips and I threw the rope to the floor. Kova jerked back. Tears filled my eyes and my heart ached, not because I was sad, I was, but more so because I was so irate and filled with resentment that my own mother would purposely set out to hurt me. I hopped down, formed a fist, and dropped it down on the balance beam as hard as I could. I shoved at the side of it trying to push it over, shoving my weight against it, which could never happen. It was too heavy, but it felt good fighting against something.
“God! I hate her! Hate her with a passion!”
“Hey,” Kova said softly, coming up behind me, but I couldn’t stop.
“I can’t stand her! No matter what I do, it’s never enough. I never over ate anything, and I bought new clothes because I lost weight. Because we had stupid parties she forced me to attend. She is such a liar.” I kept my back to Kova so he wouldn’t see the tears in my eyes. “And you played right into it, making me sound like I’m hopeless, like an amateur who still needs years of work, and even that might not be enough. You gave her exactly what she wanted and she fed off that, I know she did. She has it out for me, always has, always will. Nothing I do will be right for her.”
A fat tear slipped from the corner of my eye, and I walked away. I didn’t take more than a few steps when Kova clutched my arm in his hand.
“Stop,” he said gently. “Ria, I told her you still had a way to go because the truth is I am not ready to let you go yet.”
I didn’t know how to respond to that.
“Just give me a few minutes, Kova.” I yanked my arm away and pushed at his chest. “I’ll be right back.”
Kova grabbed my wrist. “Stop. Listen to me.”
I shook my head. “Please, just let me be for a sec and I’ll be fine.”
“Adrianna.”
“Kova! Just leave me alone!” I screamed.
But he didn’t. Kova pulled me to his chest and I immediately fought against him.
“Get it out,” he said. I shoved at him and cried harder, giving him everything I could. I hated that he was doing this to me and appreciated it at the same time. “Fight harder, hit me if you have to, just get it out.” I struggled between crying and shoving, but Kova didn’t let go, and something in me cracked.
My efforts slowed, and I covered my face and let the tears flow. I poured everything out against his chest. Everything I held in over the past year. From my mom and her backhanded compliments, to the rigorous training I demanded of my body, to the illicit affair I had with my coach. I cried over everything, and he let me.
“Shhh… just let it out,” Kova said, rubbing soothing circles on my back. “It is okay.”
When my cries and hiccups subsided, I sniffled and expelled a huge breath. I felt like a burden had been lifted from my shoulders and I could breathe again.
Stepping back, Kova tried to lift my chin, but I kept my gaze cemented to the floor. I was too embarrassed. I didn’t like crying to begin with, and I sure as shit didn’t want to show him my tears. Tears showed weakness, and I wasn’t weak.
He tried to lift my chin again, and when I didn’t budge, he sighed and got down on one knee so he was eye level with me.
“Jerk.” A sad chuckle escaped my lips. “You always find a way to get what you want.”

I wanted to kiss him.

Sitting in the midst of the entire team, discussing very crucial procedures for the launch next week, all I could think of was him.

My lips hungered to taste his, my breath caught from the desperation to amalgamate its existence with his.

It was unfathomable, the surge of emotions coursing through my blood.

The conversation with Cassie had somehow managed to unleash a wave of lust I’d never experienced before.

With every thought of him, I was disintegrating.

I was resurrecting.

I was ripping apart.

With every tick of the clock, the distance between us was eating at my soul.

I felt torturously trapped in this unwilling body of mine, unable to reach out to him.

Nothing but him mattered at this moment, like he was the very crux of my existence.

Without him, his touch, his scent, his aura around me, I was suffocating.

My clothes were strangling me.

I wanted to rip all my barricades and lunge toward him, to breathe him in and feel all right again, to feel like myself again.

I needed him.

“This is what needs to be done once we get to New York. I don’t want any glitches. Are we clear, Mr. Perry?”

His voice ripped through every barricade protecting my heart and kidnapped my heartbeats without the slightest resistance. My eyes refocused and found him.

He looked magnificent. His arms moved with animated ease as he conversed with the group.

Long, muscular arms filled up the soft gray shirt with toned perfection, guiding my eyes down to his sculpted and shapely torso, adorned by his charcoal vest.

I wanted to run my hands over his body, feel every contour, every ridge, and every muscle.

I wanted to surrender in his embrace and feel those arms possessing me, and his hands clawing me out of my self-inflicted barriers.

A pen in my hand…a blank paper waiting in anticipation…

The stars…lighting up the deep dark sky…And the magic happens…I lay down and look up..

Musing through my soul..My thoughts..take form..And the words knock at my door..
I sigh…I smile…and I let myself go..Allowing my thoughts to take me somewhere new..
I feel I am home…Its new..but its love..And as the star…streaks through the sky..
I know its time..Love beckons…And I pick up my pen and write…Filling in the blank of the paper..

Twist was a really fun read that quickly pulled me in and had me in turns laughing and rolling my eyes. Finn and his #finnisms were too much! He was so over the top, so charming and hilarious that I just couldn’t even with him. Adelaide was an introvert and her inner monologue at times was hilarious. When they got together, the back and forth was really entertaining.

I really loved those meddling grandmas! Those old gals were a hoot and a half, making Twist a fun romantic comedy that’ll have you eager for the next one.

Warrior Woman Winmill – “Full of danger and excitement”

Heather Lovelace – “What a fantastic continuation of the series”

As You Wish Reviews – “I was mesmerized by this book. Could not put it down until I could find out how it all ended. Must read!”

Magnus waited outside the cottage, anxious for Lexie. Vulnerable because he was cut off from her. Something had changed between them. The thoughts, emotions, and even the actions of the living left impressions in his head. In the beginning, he’d only connected with Lexie; now it appeared as if every person he encountered touched him in some beguiling way.

Confounded by what was happening, he went to the green water at the swamps’ edge along the side of the house. Raindrops created ripples on the stagnant water. Their concentric circles grew, intersecting in swells, releasing voices in their wake.

Magnus waited at the slimy green bank, attempting to make sense of the strange sounds. The cries of men, women, and children rose up and overwhelmed him.

“Save us!” a woman shrieked.

“Please, help me. I want to be free,” a man’s husky voice entreated.

“Take me away from this hell,” a high-pitched wail begged.

The voices built around him, crowding his ears, imploring him to rescue their tormented souls. He had never heard such noises from anyone.

A vision of his Frannie hurtling over the cliff’s edge at Altmover Manor replayed in his head. The sound she made as she toppled to the rocks below resembled the pitiful cries of the spirits around him. Magnus closed his eyes, disgusted by the memory.

When his eyes opened, he scampered backward. In the boggy water, hundreds of bodies floated in various stages of decomposition. Arms, hands, legs, and torsos bobbed on the surface. The woman in black he’d seen with Lexie stood at the water’s edge, calling to the dead to wake from their soggy tombs.

Horrified by the agony he saw on their contorted faces, Magnus wanted to obliterate the vision by returning to his shadowy realm, but he couldn’t tear himself away. The images of body parts and broken souls held him captive as bitter waves of anger and anguish rolled off the water.

“Your master’s in danger.”

Magnus spun around.

A little girl in a long white nightgown trimmed in yellow ribbon stood next to him. Down the front, a stain of burnt red went all the way to her bare feet. She held a dirty teddy bear in her arms, but when she peered up at him, a gaping wound across her throat exposed the bone underneath.

Magnus didn’t know if he could believe the phantom before him. Spirits had never reached out to him before. This was Lexie’s realm. Why did he suddenly have her gift?

“Are you real?”

“Yes, sir. Very real, just like you.”

He knelt down beside the child. “What is your name?”

“Mattie. I died in the swamp when I was six. The mistress has enslaved my soul to do her bidding.”

He touched the nose of the teddy bear in her arms. His fingers passed through the toy. “What mistress?”

“The Lady La Fay. The one who called your master to her side.”

Magnus examined her gray skin and sunken eyes. “I don’t have a master.”

She pointed to the porch steps of the cottage. “You’re bound to the woman who went inside. She’s your master and the one who controls your fate. We are all bound to those who work the dark realm. You’ll see.”

Magnus was about to question the child when her eyes went black and rolled back into her head.

Her mouth opened, and her lips stretched, expanding painfully beyond her chin and cheeks. The gaping, black hole spread and almost split her face in two. It covered her entire face, leaving only her flowing brown hair untouched.

Alarmed, he stood up. Then the child dropped the teddy bear and held her arms out to her sides.

He searched the swamps for an escape. He found the souls in the water, their dismembered bodies rising from the surface, coming toward him. A parade of legs, arms, torsos, and heads covered with algae and muck approached his spot on the shore.

He faced the girl, her toes floating above the boggy ground.

A soulless, wretched cackle came from the blackness covering her face.

“Welcome, Magnus Blackwell,” a woman’s whiny voice echoed from the darkness. “Welcome to my world.”

Most days she can be found curled up with a good book, or ticking away on her next novel. Smith is a single mom of three disturbingly outspoken and decidedly different kids, one of which is Autistic. Besides her writing, she is passionate about Autism advocacy and LGBT rights. Because, seriously people, Love is Love!
