Synopsis:

Her name means “miracle” in Sanskrit, and to her parents, that’s exactly what Kimaya is. The first baby to survive after several miscarriages, Kimi grows up in a mansion at the top of Mumbai’s Pali Hill, surrounded by love and privilege. But at eleven years old, she develops a rare illness that requires her to be confined to a germ-free ivory tower in her home, with only the Arabian Sea churning outside her window for company. . . . Until one person dares venture into her world.

Tasked at fourteen years old with supporting his family, Rahul Savant shows up to wash Kimi’s windows, and an unlikely friendship develops across the plastic curtain of her isolation room. As years pass, Rahul becomes Kimi’s eyes to the outside world–and she becomes his inspiration to better himself by enrolling in the police force. But when a life-saving heart transplant offers the chance of a real future, both must face all that ties them together and keeps them apart.

As Kimi anticipates a new life, Rahul struggles with loving someone he may yet lose. And when his investigation into an organ black market ring run by a sociopathic gang lord exposes dangerous secrets that cut too close to home, only Rahul’s deep, abiding connection with Kimi can keep her safe–and reveal the true meaning of courage, loss, and second chances.

Infused with the rhythms of life in modern-day India, acclaimed author Sonali Dev’s candid, rewarding novel beautifully evokes all the complexities of the human heart.

Freedom was a beautiful thing! Mumbai in all its grimy, gray, pre-monsoon glory flew past Kimi as her auto-rickshaw sped between cars and pedestrians with the zeal of a bastard child born of a Diwali rocket and an immortal god. She almost asked the driver to slow down, but with the wind whipping her ponytail and the driver’s mop of curls in a joint symphony she felt as recklessly brave as the whirring vehicle racing along on its three wheels.
Emblazoned across the dashboard of the rickshaw was the goddess Durga dancing on the corpse of a demon like the evil-hunting badass she was. Bowing to her was Bollywood’s favorite superhero, Krish, with his muscles bulging like fat rubber balls and his hair coiffed high. In a perfect background score to Kimi’s life’s drama, the techno-beat-laden remix of an old Bollywood number drowned out the cacophony of horns the driver left in his wake.
The combination was delicious and exactly worthy of what she had just done. What she was about to do.
Freedom!
You know who else was badass? Kimaya Kirit Patil, that’s who.
There had been one hundred and twelve instances over twelve years when each breath had been a fight and her limbs had turned to mist. She had fought. Not like a warrior, because that would involve the use of said limbs, but like someone drowning, where all you could do is keep the water out of your nose, so it wouldn’t keep the air from your lungs. Breathe out. Breathe out. She had followed those breaths. Grabbed on to those thin wisps of air like lifelines and made herself live one grip at a time.
Then the cure she had waited twelve years for in a sterile room had come. A heart had become available. Surely that meant something. Someone had died, after all, so she might live. Someone with the exact kind of blood and plasma that would let a foreign heart beat within her chest with the confidence of an indegene. Surely that meant she could now have what she never thought she would—all that she had gazed upon from the windows of her room, sealed tight with every technology known to man, so no germ, no pathogen would dare venture into her world, let alone an entire human being. Except Rahul—he had ventured. And then gone on venturing until he was all the way inside.
He’d helped her understand calculus and the nuanced stories of Premchand. He had known how atoms split, why Europe went to war twice within half a century, and the why and when of each invention that transformed the history of civilization. He had touched her, despite promises he’d made. Because it was exactly what she had needed. His gloved hand in hers. He had given her anything she had asked for when everyone else had been too afraid. And she had known that if she lived, if her parents got what they had sealed her in a room twelve years for—a daughter who lived—she would spend the rest of that life taking care of him. The way he had taken care of her.
Except she hadn’t considered the most important part of her plan: him. She had returned from Hong Kong with her new heart and he had looked at her with those dark-tar eyes turned even darker by all that emotion when she ran to him. “You’re running,” he had said, as usual choosing the least words to say the most.
“Yes,” she had said, knowing exactly why every single hard-won breath had been worth it. But then she had told him her grand plan: the two of them living happily ever after.
As always she had asked him for what she wanted. What she hadn’t for one moment considered that he didn’t also want.
He had thanked her for the offer to love him forever, and passed on it.
The person who had kept her from being alone when she was locked up in a room had finally shown her what loneliness was when he walked away from her, leaving her alone in the crowded world she had craved for so long.
No one had the right to that kind of power.
She leaned back into the overstuffed vinyl seat of the speeding auto-rickshaw feeling awfully light.
It only made sense that losing a part of yourself would bring lightness.
No. She wasn’t doing that. She was not going all morose and doing the Tragic Princess shit anymore. That wasn’t her. No matter how people saw her, that was not her. Not anymore.
Actually, it had never been her. Why the hell was she letting herself go down that path now?
She was past the Rahul-induced sadness. Done with it. He’d made his intentions clear. They were no longer—well, they just weren’t anymore. Nothing, anything, they just weren’t.
Plato would ask if the fact that they weren’t anymore meant they had never been. Or was it Aristotle? You know who would know? The one person who she could not, would not, call for a fact check. This wasn’t a Tragic Princess thought, but here it was anyway: She had to stop thinking of life in terms of thoughts she saved up for Rahul like seashells collected on a walk along the beach. It was time.

About Sonali Dev
Sonali Dev’s first literary work was a play about mistaken identities performed at her neighborhood Diwali extravaganza in Mumbai. She was eight years old. Despite this early success, Sonali spent the next few decades getting degrees in architecture and writing, migrating across the globe, and starting a family while writing for magazines and websites. With the advent of her first gray hair her mad love for telling stories returned full force, and she now combines it with her insights into Indian culture to conjure up stories that make a mad tangle with her life as supermom, domestic goddess, and world traveler.
Sonali lives in the Chicago suburbs with her very patient and often amused husband and two teens who demand both patience and humor, and the world’s most perfect dog.
Sonali’s novels have been on Library Journal, NPR, Washington Post, and Kirkus’s lists of Best Books of the year. She won the American Library Association’s award for best romance 2014, and is a RITA® finalist, RT Reviewer Choice Award Nominee, and winner of the RT Seal of Excellence. SALE BLITZ!!! –> Balance by Lucia Franco (with excerpt!)

Title: Balance
Series: Off Balance #1
Author: Lucia Franco
Genre: Forbidden Romance Over 18 years
Publication Date: February 15, 2018
Adrianna Rossi is no stranger to the rigorous demands required of her body. Years of pain and determination make her one of the best. Olympic glory is the ultimate goal, and she’ll do anything to achieve it. Even if that means leaving home to attend World Cup Academy of Gymnastics, a training center that serves one purpose–producing champions.

Perfection, precision, and dedication are required of his athletes. When two time Olympian Konstantin Kournakova is persuaded into training the young hopeful, he immediately regrets it. She doesn’t come close to his high standards. As the relentless pursuit of her dream keeps her striving, a passion is ignited within him.

Kova’s power and domination, coupled with Adrianna’s fierce tenacity, reveal there is more for her body to learn. Every interaction can be misconstrued, but there’s no mistaking the darkening of his gaze, the lingering of his touch, or the illicit image of his bare skin pressed against hers. Integrity is on the line. One toe off the beam and their forbidden desires could ruin everything they’ve worked for, throwing it all off balance.

The smell of chalk permeated the air and my stomach quivered at the first intake of the aroma into my lungs. It was a distinct scent, and taste, to a gymnast, practically part of our food groups, difficult to explain to anyone not involved in the sport. Similar to baby powder, but chalkier smelling. Muffled music blaring through the speakers, a spring board rebounding, and the sound of uneven bars ricocheting as they’re released, grabbed my attention. It was music to my ears. The kind of sound that got my adrenaline moving and my pulse thumping, beckoning me to drop everything and wrap my hands around the bars or feel the spring floor beneath my bare feet.
Taking another deep breath, I exhaled, unable to hide my splitting grin. My heart was ready to explode. Finally, I was where I was supposed to be.
Glancing around the empty lobby, I wasn’t sure where to go, but the window to my right showed a view of the huge facility. It was completely deceiving from the outside…cue the anxiety. Intimidation definitely hit hard in that moment.
Gymnasts, both male and female, were scattered about, white chalk dusting their skin. I could see not just one, but two floors, three sets of uneven bars, and seven balance beams, along with two vaults. There was also a tumble track, various equipment for men, and a high bar with a foam pit and resi-mat, a huge mat on top of a foam pit used for practicing softer landings. Farther back were a bunch of doors. I had no idea what they were for, but I was curious to what they led to.
Even my parents seemed to be in awe of the gym, if their wide eyes were any indication. A shiver shot down my spine and goose bumps coated my arms in enthusiasm, as a rush of adrenaline began beating through my veins at the sight before me.
The sound of a slamming door from behind me shook me out of my trance, compelling me to look over my shoulder. My parents followed the sound and I spotted a tall, fit man. With his hands on his hips, his eyes surveyed the lobby and connected with my parents’ before trailing down and locking with mine, his narrowing gaze holding me in place. All the air left my lungs. His powerful presence demanded attention, and without a doubt, he had all of mine.
Never in my life had I seen someone so unbelievably gorgeous. There was no other word I could use to describe him. His commanding eyes made me think it was possible he could be a coach, but no coach I’d ever seen had been so attractive. Come to think of it, none of them had ever been under the age of forty without a potbelly and receding hairline. This man was solidly built and full of muscle.
A silent breath escaped my lips as he stalked toward us with power and poise. My heart nearly hurdled into my throat as I stared like he was some sort of Adonis. Dark stubble dusted his square jaw, full lips that begged for attention, straight as an arrow nose. Combined with inky black hair and olive skin with golden undertones, sweet baby Jesus, the man was perfection.
Crossing the room, he extended a hand.
“Frank, it is good to see you again.” His forearm flexed, the veins signifying the muscular strength he wielded. It was incredibly difficult to tear my eyes away as he gave my father a firm handshake. He was absolutely, drop-dead gorgeous. Avery would call him fucking hot. My best friend loved to add “fucking” to the beginning of everything.
“Kova.”

This was my dad’s friend, and he owned this place. Interesting. He looked like he was fresh out of college, no more than twenty-five max. Dad didn’t have very many young friends I was aware of—I could count on one hand the friends I had met who were younger than him. They typically had graying hair, crow’s feet, and overworked, aging skin. The complete opposite of what was standing right in front of me.

Shame Excerpt

“Don’t scream. Don’t move,” Kevin growled into my ear.
“Fuck, Kevin,” I sputtered once his hand dropped from my mouth. “You scared the hell out of me.”
“Good.” He ran his hand along the outside of my thigh and then under my skirt, reaching for my panties. He fisted the waistband and tugged them down.
“What the hell are you doing?” My breath sawed in and out of my chest, feeling exposed with the black lace tangled around my knees. He didn’t answer, but I felt his hand unbuckling his pants and brushing against my bottom. “Kevin . . .” I said again, but he flipped my skirt up, and used his arm around my waist to yank me higher into contact with his hard cock before tearing open a condom wrapper.
“Going to fuck you, Ana.”
I was throbbing, aching. God, the way he’d snuck up on me and just begun tugging my clothes out of the way. The way he hadn’t asked, just moved me where he wanted me. The fact that we were in school, where anyone could catch us. All of it was setting my body on fire.
“Be a good girl and don’t make a sound.” He shifted his hips and without warning, he pushed inside me in one shove.
I groaned, unable to hold back every sound. I was wet, but Kevin was big and he hadn’t prepared me in any way, so it burned. And I loved it. He barely pulled back before he pushed in again. His thrusts were quick and deep. The frantic pace he set added to the intensity of being caught.
“Touch yourself,” he whispered. “Come for me. We don’t have much time.”
One hand splayed on his thigh, holding on, and the other moved between my legs to rub at my clit. The theater was so silent that our heavy breathing and quiet moans sounded like shouts. I felt like we were daring someone to come in and watch us.
I thought I was going to draw blood from biting my lips when Kevin’s hand roughly pinched my nipple beneath my shirt causing me to hold back my scream. There was no relief, he held on to my tip and squeezed, the burn shooting straight down to my throbbing core.
I wondered what we would look like to someone who stumbled upon us. Locked together, his body pressed to my hunched back as he rutted against me like an animal in heat. His fingers latched on to my breast and my hand moving furiously between my legs.
Just the thought—creating the image in my head—set me off. “Ke-Kevin,” I cried out on a breath, desperate to stay quiet as I arched up onto my toes and let the waves of pleasure pour over me. He clamped his hand over my parted lips to hold in the cries of my orgasm and buried his head into my back, letting his moans vibrate through my chest.
My whole body shook when I came down from my high. Our bodies both leaned forward as our chests heaved in sync from the effort it took to fuck so quickly.
Kevin placed a soft kiss between my shoulder blades and slipped out of me, holding me up so I didn’t collapse in a heap on the floor. Turning around, I pulled my panties up my legs and watched him pull the condom off. My pussy squeezed. Such an intimate moment that turned me on just to see him tugging the thin piece of latex off his softening dick. Without thinking, I squatted down and sucked the tip of his cock between my lips, wanting to taste him. His hand fisted in my hair and thrust in deep with a moan before pulling out and lifting me for a kiss.
It turned me on that he didn’t mind the taste of himself. Hell, everything Kevin did turned me on. Things I didn’t even think about or consider turned me on with him. Almost every day we discovered more and more and it felt safe and exciting to do it with him. My best friend. Kevin looked down at me and smiled as he buckled up his pants.
“That was pretty risky. We could’ve gotten caught.”
“And that is the thrill of it,” he answered.

Make It to the Altar Excerpt

We grabbed a seat at our gate and settled in for the wait. He took off his suit jacket and rested it over my shoulders before pulling me as close to him as I could get with an armrest between us. The sensation of his fingers stroking my hair almost lulled me to sleep when a slow song came on at the bar across the walkway and he shifted.

“Dance with me, Anabelle.”

Looking around at the people, I almost said no, but he’d already tugged me out of my seat and into his arms.

“Don’t tell me no. It’s our first dance.”

I dug my fingers into the hair along his neck and laid my head on his chest, letting Ed Sheeran’s song, Perfect, surround us as Kevin moved in slow circles. I was sure people were watching, but I didn’t care.

“How many kids do you want?” His question surprised me. We’d never really talked details about kids other than we both knew we wanted them.

“I don’t know. More than one, less than ten.”

His chest shook against my cheek as he laughed. “Sounds like a good limit.”

“What about you?”

“More than one. I didn’t love being the only child.”

“Me either. But I was lucky when I found you. Although, I wouldn’t have hated it if you’d had a sexy older brother.”

“Anabelle,” he growled my name.

Laughing, I said, “I’m kidding. You’re it for me. You’re the only person I want to have a baby with.”

Lifting my head, I looked up into his eyes, wanting to get lost in the depths and layers of brown. He leaned down and kissed my cheek working his way to my ear where he nipped at it with his teeth.

“I can’t wait to see you pregnant with my child.” His words sent a shiver of excitement down my body. “Does that excite you? Being filled with my seed?”

I didn’t answer, just swallowed hard and buried my head in his chest to hide the flush working its way up my chest.

“That first trimester, when everything is so sensitive,” he growled from deep in his chest. “Oh, Ana. I’ll suck on your full breasts, torture them, wrap them around my dick and fuck them. They’ll be so eager for my touch, I’ll probably be able to make you come just by playing with them.”

“Kevin.” I said his name on a desperate breath, squeezing my thighs against the ache his words created.

“Are you turned on, Ana? Do my words excite you, right here in front of all these people? I bet I could make you come with my words alone. And you would, for me.”

My whole body shook with need and I held tightly to his neck, scared he would do it. Terrified that he wouldn’t.

I could feel his breath against my neck and waited for him to begin when we were interrupted by an announcement.

“Passengers on flight one-five-two-three, to Jamaica, need to proceed to the desk. Flight one-five-two-three to Jamaica has been canceled. Please see check in for information.”
