In the beautiful Sierra Nevada mountain town of Nugget, California, falling hard is all too easy . . .
This is the summer of Annie Sparks—at least according to her. No more supporting lazy jerks or coddling irresponsible family or taking care of anyone who doesn’t deserve her help. Instead she’s headed to an estate in a remote mountain town, to spend her summer with her boots covered in mud and her hands working the earth. Love is the last thing on her mind.
Nugget is a long way from Logan Jenkins’ old life as a Navy SEAL. But before he starts fresh in the private sector, he receives a bequest from a man he never knew: his biological father. To learn more about his background, Logan makes his way to his late father’s estate, where he is immediately knocked on his heels by an incredible woman with a heart of gold.
Annie’s not looking for a fling, and Logan knows Nugget can’t be forever, so falling in love should be impossible. But when they’re together, time stops, and suddenly the impossible seems like the only thinkable option . . .
Annie Sparks is the kind of friend who kicks up all of your protective instincts. She has a string of losers in her past, all of whom needed her for her money, her work ethic or her support. But the summer we meet Annie in Falling Hard she is all about herself. For once.
She refuses to deal with the people who want to use her and not look out for her. Including her family, who continues to sink money into her brother’s failed business ventures rather than the farm that had been in the family for generations. After hearing that I knew that I would like her. A lot. She’s loving and caring to those who matter to her but the fact that she broke up with her boyfriend and washed her hands of her family meant she wasn’t a total pushover.
And when Logan comes to town to learn about the father he never knew, the attraction is instant. Logan is freshly retired from the Navy and he is exactly the kind of guy you want to have around. Eager to lend a hand, big, handsome and commanding, I couldn’t wait for Annie to give in to the fire simmering between her and Logan.
I understood where she was coming from about not wanting a fling, especially with a guy like Logan who you want to keep forever, but she showed more restraint that I’d be able to that’s for sure.
Stacy Finz did a really good job with Falling Hard. The main characters had plenty of chemistry and more importantly, we got to see the friendship develop before things turned romantic. I absolutely love a small town romance and Nugget is filled with quirky, nosy and plain spoken. The secondary characters alone make me want to read the rest of the series.
And I will admit that towards the end there were plenty of tears making it hard to read. This was a satisfying read with an ending that had me both laughing and swooning.
