ABOUT:
Sometimes the only place left to go is home.
Kara Martinson always thought her high school crush was out of her league, but they did share one night she’s never been able to forget. Nearly three decades after being disowned by her parents and forced to raise her son on her own, Kara’s made it—her art is being toasted at a gallery opening. Even better, she and her son are finally on stable ground. Until Mr. One-Night Stand himself crashes her party.
Harry Canton always knew Kara would make it as an artist. Almost thirty years after high school, he still considers her the one that got away. But the surprise reunion doesn’t quite go to plan when Harry discovers he left her with more than just memories when he went away to college. Desperate to connect with the family he never knew existed, Harry convinces his son to move cross country for a fresh start with his father—and pleads with Kara to come home, too.
Kara hasn’t stepped foot in their hometown since the day she was sent away. But her son desperately wants the father he never had and denying him that may cost her everything. Can love heal old heartaches so Harry and Kara can have a second chance at the future they were robbed of so long ago? Or will the pain of the past be too much to face?

I love a second chance romance and this one, with a twist, was a good read. Harry and Kara are really great characters with flaws and fears and they just felt so REAL. At times they both annoyed me and then turned around to do things that endeared them both to me. Between the hurt and anger and the big bad past looming right behind them, this was a happy ending well worth the journey!
There were a few minutes where I thought I might not be able to get into The Road Leads Back because of Phil. I know he went through a lot but he was a parent and old enough to cut his mom a little slack. I appreciated how much he grew throughout the story and I’m kind of hoping that he’ll get his own story sometime soon.
But Harry and Kara…I LOVED them! She was fun and sweet with her boho style and ability to make the most out of an unexpected life. She hung on to her anger and to me, it felt justified, which only frustrated me when everyone else made it seem like she was overreacting. She wasn’t. I found Kara to be a highly sympathetic heroine who was strong and capable, even more than she realized.
I believe this is my first book my Marci Bolden but so far, I’m a fan!

Jack Walden, “Wal,” has it bad for Marco, the talented, sexy auto mechanic-slash-vintage car restorer he had a brief relationship with. So bad that he regularly fakes car damage just to have an excuse to be around the man. Wal can’t muster the courage to tell Marco how he feels and that he wants another chance, even though watching Marco date drives him crazy with jealousy.
