LIVE ~ Djinn Everlasting Series by Lisa Manifold

Title: Three Wishes and Forgotten Wishes
Series: Djinn Everlasting Series
Author: Lisa Manifold
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Available Now Kindle Unlimited

To find out what might have been, she has to give up control over what will be.

After a long night of eating too much ice cream and lamenting her less than wise choices, Tibby Holloway wakes up to find a freelancing djinn sitting on her bed. He makes her the offer of a lifetime: three wishes – three chances to go back and change her life.

She can choose a different career, find the man she loved and lost – in short, she can go back and do everything right this time.

But there’s a catch.

Once she’s gone back three times, once she’s created three new—and hopefully better—realities, the djinn will decide where she ends up.

Maybe it would be better not to even know … but that’s a chance Tibby will have to take if she wants to have her three wishes.

A djinn can only do so much…

Dhameer is a freelancing djinn who seeks to grant wishes of the heart for people he encounters. When he comes across Xavier Reede, better known as bad boy rapper XTC, he is touched by the longing he hears in Xavier’s wish.

Dhameer pays Xavier a visit, pleased to help another person find their happiness. However, Xavier, living up to his reputation – all but throws Dhameer’s offer back in the djinn’s face. Despite Xavier’s terrible behavior, Dhameer decides to keep his word and grant the rapper his wish.

But there’s a catch.

Xavier won’t remember the wish, nor Dhameer’s offer to help.

Which wouldn’t be a catastrophe, except Dhameer has made it so Xavier can find exactly what he needs to quiet the longing in his heart. Trouble is, our bad boy rapper only sees what he wants to see. The success of this wish hinges on Xavier’s ability to get out of his own way.

Can Xavier do things differently this time so he can get his heart’s desire? Because money, fame, and success will only take him so far…

Three Wishes

After too much ice cream and probably too much Lifetime, I gave up and went to bed. I felt fat and weepy. Not a successful dispelling of whatever this was. Lying in bed, staring at the ceiling, my mind went back to my torturous game of what if. Tonight, for some unknown reason, I wandered into the dreaded I could have moments.

I fell asleep thinking about a couple of those, and about what would have happened had I taken the chance. I did my best to dispel my whiny thoughts from earlier, because I noticed when I went to bed in a bad mood, I had crappy dreams.

When I woke up, the sun was shining through the top of my window. I peered at the clock and saw that it was 6:37. Why hadn’t my alarm gone off? It was usually set for 6:30. I must not have set it last night. Oh well. I could afford to sleep in this morning. I began to snuggle back into sleep when something caught my eye. I looked again. There was a man, sitting on the edge of my bed, legs crossed, examining his fingernails. He looked…glittery, a mix of what looked like gold and silver.

“Who the fuck are you?” I screamed, clutching the blanket to my throat with one hand while reaching out for my phone on the night table with the other. It wasn’t there. Where the hell had I left it? I tried to look around the room without looking like I was looking around the room. Fuck.

“You can call me your fairy godmother, Toots,” he said cheerfully. Great. A serial killer who was chipper, cheerful, and possessed of a sense of humor. I had to find a way to get to my phone. I cursed myself for not keeping one by the bed.

“Why?”

“Because I heard you last night, and I’m here to help you.”

“What? What are you talking about?”

“I heard your dreams. Everyone in the state could. I didn’t realize just how loud dreams could sound until I ran across you. So I am here to put to rest your eternal pondering.”

“How are you going to do that?” This was creepy, and interesting, and creepy all at once. I figured I could get to the phone in a minute. He was obviously crazy. I was kind of afraid to move.

“I am a djinn.” He looked at me as though that explained it all.

I clutched my blanket higher around my neck and cast my eyes around for my phone.

He saw me do it, and sighed heavily. “You may know me as a genie.”

“Like Aladdin?” I couldn’t help asking, lowering the blanket a little.

He rolled his eyes like the bitchiest girl in high school. “Djinn. In the understood tradition of djinn, I am going to give you three wishes. You must know,” he held up an index finger, and I was caught watching it sparkle in the sun. “My wish granting is a little different though. There is no wishing for more wishes. Your wishes are going to have to be specific, and they are going to be what you would call a ‘do-over’.”

“I’m not trying to be dense here, but what do you mean?” My curiosity was getting the better of my fear. Everything in the room seemed more in focus, sharper. I knew I ought to be more afraid, but it didn’t seem to be happening that way.

He sighed, and rolled his eyes dramatically. Again. Whatever the hell he was, he did not lack in the dramatic flair department. “Humans. I liked you better when you were more savage in your wants as you were in your dreams. Far more willing to believe without question; able to just wish and get it over with. Okay. I’ll break it down for you, Tootsie Pop. You have been dreaming of turning points in your life. Those maddening little what ifs. What if you had made choice A instead of choice B? That sort of thing. I am going to grant you three do-overs. You get to choose three times in your life where you wish you had made a different decision, and go back and make the decision you didn’t make the first time around. I’ll let you see what happens. You and I will talk after you have done all three, and see what’s next. What do you say? Are you interested?”

“I don’t want to sound ungrateful, but how do I know that you are not just crazy for glitter paint and breaking into houses?” I had decided that if he was crazy, it was better to humor him until I could find my damn phone.

He rolled his eyes again, muttering what sounded like “humans” under his breath. He rose from the bed. When I say rose, he actually lifted off the bed. He didn’t seem to have feet. It looked a little misty from the knee area down. He raised a hand, and I saw it shimmer in the sun. He made a gesture that looked like he was throwing something, and suddenly there was a giraffe at the foot of my bed.

Forgotten Wishes:

Something fell on my head, and I reached up to brush it off automatically. What the hell now?

I looked at my hand, and it had glitter all over it. Looking up, I saw…I don’t know what the fuck I saw. A cloud of glitter. It looked like a crazy craft fairy had exploded above me.

What the hell was all this doing in my apartment? If I called maintenance, maybe they’d still be around. Even though I owned the building, I kept a maintenance crew. I wasn’t up for dealing with all the things that went wrong in older buildings in New York. Was there a leak or something? This was the day for dealing with the bullshit, apparently. I reached for the phone when the glittering cloud landed in front of me.

“Are you quite over moping around and feeling sorry for yourself?”

I rubbed my eyes. Since when did glitter talk? I glanced at the glass of tea I’d been drinking. I hadn’t added anything to it.

“This is not a hallucination, and no, you are not drugged.”

All right. What. The. Fuck?

The glitter cloud shifted around, and I found that a guy sat on the couch with me. And what a guy! He had no shirt on, which…oh hell. Did someone get ideas from our clubbing the other night?

“Hey, pal, whatever it is, I’m not into it. Just leave now, and I won’t call the cops.”

The guy sighed. “You don’t need to call anyone. I’m here to help you.”

“Right, pal. That’s what all the nut jobs say.” I edged away, wondering where the fuck I kept something that could be used as a weapon. I hadn’t had a stalker since…since that weird chick – what was her name? Tommie? She thought she had a career in music, and I was just the guy to help her get there. I’d had to take out a restraining order on her. But she hadn’t been a problem in a couple of years. It’s why I lived in a building with security. No need for weapons.

I wished I had one now.

The guy leaned back, and I hoped like hell his paint job wouldn’t rub off on my couch.

“I am here to help you, although you’re rather an ingrate,” He said.

“How the hell am I supposed to be grateful for the glitter fairy breaking into my place and messing it up?” I shot back.

“I am not a fairy. I’m a djinn, and I’m here to give you something you want if you could get out of your own way, boy,” he said.

Right. A djinn. What the hell is that? “You’re a what? What’s your name, glitter boy?”

He rose from my couch, and when I say rose, I mean floating. Full on ghost liftoff. I didn’t often find myself speechless, but I couldn’t say a thing. My mouth tried, but the words wouldn’t come out.

For the first time, I felt fear. What the hell was going on? This went way beyond normal stalking crap.

“Close your mouth, and open your ears and more importantly, your mind, Xavier,” the man said. “My name is Dhameer, and I am here, as I’ve said, to offer you help in attaining something you want. Not give, you’ll note. But help.” He crossed his arms and glared at me.

I gauged the difference from where I sat to where he…floated…above my couch. Took a deep breath, and pushed off. Maybe I could…

I fell onto the couch with such force that I bounced off and landed at the other end. I looked up and saw Dhameer had risen higher up, and still glared at me.

“I know you’re not stupid,” he said. “But you’re intent on trying to show me otherwise.”

I rubbed my head. That fucking hurt.

“You’re not going to be able to hurt me, Xavier. But we can play this game until you wear yourself out and are ready to listen to reason. Or I could just leave.”

I opened my mouth to tell him to get the fuck out when something Tibby said yesterday came back to me.

We’d been standing together waiting for the limo.

“If anything weird happens, while I’m gone…just go with it, okay?”

“What the hell does that mean?” I asked.

The Tibby I knew came back instantly. “It means that if something out of the ordinary happens, just go with it. Stop being an ass and take some well-meant advice for once in your life!”

I’m not a big believer in a lot of hocus pocus shit. It has no place in the real world, for me. But there was glitter boy hovering around my place, basically laughing at me while offering…something. I didn’t know what. And after Tib suggested going with anything weird that happened.

How could she have known?

ABOUT:

A runaway author

Ivy Blake is on a deadline. Actually, she’s past the deadline and desperate to find some peace, quiet, and inspiration to get her book back on track. She doesn’t plan on a Tennessee blizzard or the bear that causes her to crash.

A grumpy lumberjack

Harrison Wilkes isn’t actually a lumberjack, but he’s doing his best impression during this week away from real life. He needs to rest, recharge, and stay the hell away from people, while he makes some major life decisions. He doesn’t plan to be executing a snowbound rescue.

Is it getting hot in here?

When Winter Stormageddon traps Ivy and Harrison together, suddenly his one-man cabin feels more cramped than cozy. As more than the fireplace heats things up, Harrison’s starting to think the interruption to his solitude might be worth it. Will the grumpy lumberjack prove to be inspiration or distraction?

Ivy and Harrison were a fun couple to get to know in Baby It’s Cold Outside, despite my initial hesitance about reading a novella. Usually I find them too short to be satisfying but, as usual, Kait Nolan has done a great job of pulling out all the right details for a full and satisfying story.

As a writer myself, I fully understand Ivy’s need to just get away and focus on taking care of herself and writing. But best laid plans and all that, and she ends up in a compromising position (not that kind!) that lands her in the arms of super hot and very grumpy Harrison. He’s a man of few words, plenty of grunts, and some pretty intense inner thoughts.

It was nice to see some of the people from the Misfit Inn series, especially Ari who seems to have grown up even more and all I have to say, is poor Pru! And (hint, hint) I’m hoping this is going to kickstart another series with those sexy ex-servicemen?!?!

Okay, back to the story. Baby It’s Cold Outside was hot and sweet, fun, funny and yes, even sad at times. I felt it all and if not for the fact it was so short, I definitely would have stayed up all night trying to finish it!

Another great romance from Kait Nolan!

Until Jess.

But when Coy skyrockets to stardom, Jess is thrust into a world in which she doesn’t belong.

That is, until she discovers an unexpected friendship. Sean treats Jess as someone special, important, and worthy of love. The feelings and desires he stirs within are dangerous, because despite Sean’s kindness and affection, she’s forever loyal to Coy.

What happens when doing the wrong thing feels right?

Jess and Sean’s friendship is put to the test, along with alliances in the band. Is love enough to derail their best laid plans, or will selfishness throw everyone’s success off track?

DERAILED can be read as a standalone or begin with Trent’s story in DETOUR.
“Cold?” He slides out of his coat jacket, stands at my side, and holds it out to me. He’s far enough away that he has to stretch his arms to their full length, almost as if he wants me to turn and look at him. His hand is covered in tattoos, all the way to where his wrist disappears into the cuff of his black dress shirt.

I fight the urge to meet his gaze, instead directing my eyes back out to the night. I shake my head no.

He waits a moment and I wonder whether he’s lingering in case I change my mind. I’ve already made a fool out of myself—and out of Coy—and my boyfriend won’t be pleased if I walk back indoors wearing another man’s coat. Sean places the jacket back on and I sneak a glance at his profile. He pats around his pockets and I guess it’s for a lighter. Surprising, since I’ve never seen him smoke, but he did tell Coy that’s what he came out here for.

He pulls out a baggy and when I realize what it is, I almost laugh. Scooping a handful of trail mix, he pauses before putting it in his mouth, and turns his chin to catch my stare. His lips pull into a warm smile. “Sorry, I’m always hungry.” He tosses the food in his mouth and crunches before holding the bag out to me.

“Oh, no, thank you.” I can’t believe he’s packing trail mix. Not only is this a swanky event with tons of free food being offered on polished silver platters, but he’s a famous bad boy rocker . . . smuggling snacks. If People ever got hold of this they’d have it in a full page spread. Probably up the sales of trail mix across the nation. At that I do giggle.

He laughs and cocks his head. “What? I get hungry. I always come prepared.” He winks and I don’t know why, but my mind automatically assumes he’s making a sexual reference. I remember his bare chest this morning all glistened with sweat. Is he really always prepared when he comes? I’m horrible, and my skin heats with further embarrassment for thinking about Sean like that.

He crunches on a few more handfuls of food, shifting so his back leans against the rail until the food is gone. He rolls his neck. “God, I hate these things.” He shifts uncomfortably.

“Charity galas?” Curiosity gets the best of me. This man, the entire band, has ignited an unnatural interest. I sneak another glance as his mouth pulls up in a smirk.

“No, smartass. Dress clothes.” He lets loose a gravelly chuckle.

Twisting to study his face better, I lean my hip on the railing and face him. His smile, a little wicked and even more genuine, pulls my own lips into a grin. “Me, too,” I admit.

“What? Not possible.” He shakes his head.

“Why? Only guys are allowed to hate dressing up? Sexist much?” I delight in the smile that stretches his lips wide. “I’m more of a jeans and T-shirt girl.”

“My kinda girl.” A little thrill bubbles up with his words and while I should avert my gaze, I can’t help but delight in watching his face as he takes me in, an unhurried perusal that begins at my shoes and ends when he reaches my stare. “You look gorgeous tonight. You know that?”

At his words my smile falters and I remember just how I look, along with Coy’s stinging words. I turn back to the landscape.

“You do know that, right?”

I don’t know how to answer Sean without my insecurity creeping into my voice so I ignore his question. He scuffs his heel on the railing and pushes off, taking a few steps forward and letting the empty plastic bag drop to the ground. Thank goodness. He’s going to leave and I can forget his kindness.

“Jessica.” My name falls from his lips with such urgency, I have to turn and meet his gaze. His eyes, the irises brown and almost molten, cause my pulse to quicken, but he offers a sincere and kind smile. “You look beautiful tonight. You’re as pretty in jeans and a T-shirt, too, but you need to know these socialites don’t hold a candle to your beauty.” He holds my gaze and I can’t look away. I can’t breathe. I can hardly think. Not with his compliment holding me immobile. The way he speaks, with so much conviction, I almost believe him. Almost.

My eyes drop as guilt crashes over me. I shouldn’t be out here with Sean. Soaking in the joy from his words. Coy, my boyfriend, is the reason I’m here tonight. Without him I’d be nowhere. Have nothing. “I better get inside.”

“Hey, I’m sorry if I made you uncomfortable.” He leans forward and dips down so our eyes meet. His are full of apology and concern. “I’m not hitting on you. You’re with Coy and I respect that. I just wanted to tell you how beautiful you are. All women deserve to be told the truth.”

His words sting and I have to blink back the moisture in my eyes.

“Sorry, that was supposed to make you feel better, not worse.” He rubs one hand at the nape of his neck and blows out an exaggerated breath.

“It’s fine.”

“I’m an idiot. I apologize. Can we go back to where you were smiling like you might want to be friends?”

The Art of Forgiveness has done something that very few books have been able to do, and that is get a good review despite my mixed feelings. Because, make no mistake, this story by Monique Orgeron is a good read. A frustrating and compelling read all at once.

Avery was a victim of bullying at school and verbal abuse at home for most of her life and I understand that informed a lot of what she did and how she acted. But her willingness to just push her happiness aside—as an adult—for her delusional mother made it hard to sympathize with her. During the first few chapters of the book I nearly stopped reading because I just couldn’t take her saying ‘oh it was easier so I just did as she said’. It was so damn frustrating.

Then the sh*t hit the fan and I stayed up way too late trying to see what was going on. And what that was, was awful. Terrible. A hellish nightmare that made me feel for Avery viscerally. I wanted to step in front of her and slay those dragons for her, because that was worse than anything she’d ever been through and but for the genre, I did worry she wasn’t strong enough to handle it.

And I have to give it up to Monique Orgeron for proving me wrong. That chick was strong, stronger than even she knew. The Art of Forgiveness was a story about exactly that, forgiveness. But not just Liam and the mindf*ck he unleashed on her as a teenager, but also herself for allowing it to happen and even her Mom, which…wow. I don’t see myself forgiving that woman anytime soon.

I should mention Liam since he is the hero, but honestly Liam didn’t really do much for me. He was a weak man, a scaredy cat at best and that just isn’t sexy at all. From the beginning he had all the say and while I can forgive him a little based on the decisions he made at 18, the fact that he kept doing it years later made it a little hard to swallow.

Now for the rest of the characters. I absolutely loved Catherine, she was a total badass who ruled her family with a fist made of iron and velvet. Honestly, I want to be Catherine when I grow up. And the Stern brothers? Good lord were they all hot and bossy and just what you’d expect when you got a group of big, alpha men together. Some of my favorite parts of the story were when this big strong men devolved into little boys.

I wish that the romance had been more intertwined into the story, because truthfully it was more like part one and part two of a story, but I still really enjoyed reading The Art of Forgiveness.

Written by Monique Orgeron’s eldest, most beautiful, and intelligent daughter. (My sister is going to hate this part.)

My mom happens to be the most caring, loving, and stubborn person I know, well anyone knows. She gives 100% percent of herself to everyone and has given up so much of herself for my sister and I. For twenty-one years she has poured her heart and soul into making sure we know that we are loved and that we can do anything we put our minds too, but it was about time she figured that out about herself.

Up until this year I hadn’t seen my mom do anything for only her, but this book has allowed her to travel the world through the pages of a book, make new friends, and feel the joy of doing something exciting.

There is a new light behind her eyes and it is just making me feel more joy than she can ever imagine. While she might be annoying most of the time, I am so thrilled that she is finally allowing herself to grow as a person and not spend all of her energy on her family.

It has been a long journey of self-discovery for my mom; she has gone from domestic supermom to domestic goddess throughout the process of writing.

We are so very excited and proud of you! I love you as big as the world.

The Fire Scale flies low over Ithil. Its body is the breadth of a circus tent. Its breast is striped by veins as broad as the boughs of a mighty oak. Its roar is like the howl of an angry wind.
It gleams in the starlight. Its scales are ruby-red. No wonder just one of them is worth its weight in gold, and there must be thousands. They sparkle, catching the glow of lamps and torches below – flat, fluttering discs that ripple against its skin like a scarlet coat of suns.
Its leathery wings beat, once, twice, like a tribal drum, like a thunderclap, and out of its yawning mouth, a blaze erupts, engulfing everything.
One breath, and Ithil is black as ash. Ithil, gloating Ithil, built of white sandstone. Built by the hands and backs of scholars.
One breath. Libraries and the proud, columned summer homes of wealthy merchants are set alight. Every inch of lush, green earth in the airy market square is grit and gravel in an instant.
Screams rise up like a symphony, sobs and the worst swears men can muster. Just outside of the town gates, in a field not far enough away for anyone’s liking, crystal champagne glasses fall into the grass. Girls in their finest gowns faint or flee, and some are trampled underfoot.
In the heart of Ithil, beneath a brightly embroidered tarp, drunks and costumed children lie dead or dying. They make groaning prayers as they bleed and burn, mouths flush with the rose-cobbled street.
One, two. The Fire Scale is high above the burning town. It gapes, and smacks its lips. Embers teeter over its tongue and tip out between its wide-gapped fangs.
One, two. The Fire Scale breaks through the clouds and inky phantoms swirl in its wake. Some Ithites watch its yellow talons shove aside the stars.
So quick, it came, it left. A breath. A fast-ascend, and it is gone.
And Ithil…Ithil is on fire.
