Review ~ A Time to be Tender by Sheila Seabrook

ABOUT:

Heartbreaking to heartwarming…stories of love and redemption, trust and second chances.

It started out as an escape…
Help one sad and lonely widower get his life—and his family—back together again while she hid from her past. But Jane Watts didn’t expect to fall for the cowboy next door. Nor did she anticipate he’d fall for her in return.

It was supposed to be an easy out…
The booze, the brawls, the bull riding. But Mike Toryn didn’t ask to be saved by his secretive neighbor. Nor did he expect that he would want to save her in return.

What should have been uncomplicated and temporary had suddenly become profound and heartbreaking. And neither Mike nor Jane did heartbreak, not ever again.

From the Rocky Mountain contemporary romance series:
Book 1 – Always Remember
Book 2 – Terms of Surrender
Book 3 – A Time to be Tender

This story was surprisingly good, if a little slow and quite heavy at times, but A Time to be Tender didn’t suffer for it. This is the story about two people, Jane and Mike, who needed each other more than they realized. Both have been dragged through hell, and only with the help of each other, will they find their way back to a life in the light.

Mike lost the love of his life, his wife, and he just completely fell apart. Spectacularly fell apart to the point where a social worker came in and took his twin girls from him. Instead of working hard to get it all back, Mike went in the other direction, drinking and fighting, oh and bull riding. Because you know, that’s safe.

Jane, well Jane has been through even more and the stubborn woman refuses to talk about it. With anyone. I won’t give away her secrets because they are a really big part of A Time to be Tender, but it is a doozy. But thanks to her meddling mama, she and Mike start spending time together and they both begin to feel better.

The thing I liked about this story was that it didn’t read like your traditional romance. The build was slow, as it should be between two broken people, but even though it was rarely mentioned, you could see the affection building. The trust and eventually, the love.

Jane was a real treat because her insecurities were very real and once you find out why, completely understandable. It wasn’t some perceived problem that makes the reader roll her eyes and skim ahead. If I had any complaint it would be that I had to wait until the end of the story to find out what happened to Jane. I just felt like if that reveal had come sooner, it would have been more satisfying.

Review ~ A Spoonful of Sugar by Kate Hardy

ABOUT:

Tyler Carter is a healthy-eating gym owner who doesn’t bake. When his employees enter him into a bake-off contest to raise money for Harry’s House, an after school space for kids commemorating local first responder Harry Monroe, he needs to learn–fast!

Shy special needs teacher Stacey Allman loves to bake and often dreams of sharing her confections with her uber fit, gorgeous neighbor. So when Tyler sets off his smoke alarm and explains his dilemma, she can’t resist the temptation of playing pastry chef tutor. He offers boxing lessons in exchange. More time together? Yes please,

But when Tyler’s ex comes back to Marietta asking for his help, will it derail Stacey and Tyler’s chance at love, or will it make them see that they’re the perfect fit?

A Spoonful of Sugar is book two in the Bachelor Bake-Off series, and this time we get health conscious gym owner Tyler, whose staff entered him into the bake-off knowing he can’t even cook grilled cheese. So when Tyler sets off his smoke alarm during an attempt to bake a cake he finally gets an official introduction to his cute by shy neighbor, Stacey Allman. Stacey is a heroine you can get behind and I applaud Kate Hardy for this character. She is sympathetic and kind, sweet and shy, but along the way she learns that she is stronger and smarter than her family ever let her believe. When these two meet up for baking lessons, it is a sweet romance even grandma will love.

What I loved about A Spoonful of Sugar was the small town feel and getting to catch up with the people of Marietta. The drama was minimal, almost too minimal but for a sweet romance it got the job done. I liked Tyler a lot, but Lyle is the one who stole the show for me and I hope he gets a story in this series too. The thing I had a problem with is that Kate Hardy spent a lot of time talking about how to bake and at times it felt more like an homage to baking than a small town romance. The author more than made up for it with the actual bake-offs, but it slowed down the pace of the book a bit too much. Overall I enjoyed this title, but I enjoyed book one more.

Release & Review ~ Claiming Cooper by AF Crowell

Title: Claiming Cooper
Series: An O’Loughlin Brothers Novel
Author: AF Crowell
Genre: Romantic Suspense/NA/Western
Release Date: January 2, 2018
Her first crush.

Her first rejection.

Cooper O’Loughlin is everything Kinsley Allen has ever wanted.

Just when Kinsley should have been starting life, finding herself. She ended up running. When she landed back home to deal with the fallout from the one night that had changed her entire future she never imagined she would end up tied back to him.

Much like every other time before, Cooper shut her down before she could admit her true feelings. She was in love with her best friend’s brother.

In the dark shadows, secrets hide. Time was up. Kinsley’s consequences followed waiting to exact their revenge.

There’s no place safe, not even home.

In Claiming Cooper, we meet Kinsley, who has practically been part of the O’Loughlin family since she was a kid. Best friends with one brother and crushing on another, she’s always felt safe around them. So, when things go really wrong one night she hightails it out of town just days before graduation and heads home. To safety. She knew, if nothing else, her best friend Ashton would be there for her.

Back at home now, she wants to put that all behind her and focus on the future. And Cooper, the object of her desire and her best friend’s brother. Cooper, he’s a character. Though he always felt something for Kinsey, he kept it to himself because of Ashton’s feelings. But now that she’s back in town and clearly something is wrong, he is feeling all kinds of protective…and something else. And therein lies his problem. Does he finally go after what he wants or continue to put his brother’s feelings ahead of his own?

A.F. Cromwell has written a solid story that I did mostly enjoy. I always have trouble with stories written in the first person and I really would have liked to hear some things from Cooper’s perspective, but the story was compelling enough that I kept reading. Claiming Cooper was emotional, and at times, heartbreaking. But worth the read.

“I loved this book so much and I cannot wait to read more in this series. I ugly cried, I laughed, I cried some more, I was happy, I was hopeful, and most of all… I fell in love with the O’Loughlin family.”  ~Stacy Stewart

“Omg. My heart couldn’t handle this book a few times, but I must say it was amazing. This book takes you on a crazy roller coaster of emotions and tragedies.” ~Candice Handy

I read this story in one night… as in it was so good I didn’t sleep because I had to find out what happened. AF Crowell is putting out another great series and this one has sexy cowboys!! YES!!!!”  ~Beth at White Hot Reads

Suddenly, the shed door burst open with a whoosh of humid air. On the other side was none other than the gorgeous Cooper O’Loughlin. “Ryan, I fuckin’ warned you once to stay the hell away from Kinsley. What the fuck?”
My jaw fell open at his words. Why would he have told Ryan to stay away from me? Ryan was Ashton’s best friend and I considered him a friend as well.
“You need to chill, bro,” Ryan said nonchalantly then handed the bottle back to me. “Kins asked if I wanted to do shots with her. It’s not like we’re in here fuckin’ or something.”
“Get the hell outta here,” Cooper seethed, his cheeks were crimson and splotchy.
What the hell is his problem?
“Later, Kins.” Ryan shouldered past the wall that was Cooper, muttering something indiscernible the whole way.
“Seriously?” I raised my brow. “What was that?”
“How wise do you think it is to get drunk with him?”
“Oh, get the hell outta here with that shit, Cooper. I’ve known Ryan almost as long as I’ve known you. He’s never tried anything.” My voice got louder as I went, and my arms flailed wildly. “And what the hell would it matter to you anyway if I was in here screwing Ryan?! You’ve made it perfectly clear you aren’t interested.” By the end, I was pointing my finger and yelling at him.
Cooper didn’t back down. He didn’t apologize. He yelled back. “When did I ever say I wasn’t interested?!”
I stood there, rooted to the floor, my whole world rocked to the core by one question. Before I could even answer him, he came at me from across the small room like a heat-seeking missile. Directed straight at me.
“Fuck it.” His strong hand slid along my jaw and roughly cupped the back of my neck at the same time his right arm came around my waist and yanked me to him.
Almost losing my balance, I crashed into his hard chest and found myself transfixed by his eyes. While I saw familiarity, I also saw a smoldering passion that had never been there before. It was spellbinding.

“I never said I didn’t want you.”
A.F. Crowell lives in Charleston, SC with her husband and two sons. They have two dogs, Diesel, a German Shepherd rescue and Dez, a black Labrador Retriever. She shares her love of books with her children, who have a head start on becoming life-long readers.

Romance fiction hit her radar when her husband forced her to watch Twilight one weekend when they were snowed in. That was it! From there her love grew; Contemporary Romance, Paranormal, YA and Dystopian are her preferred reads.

Review ~ A Real Cowboy for Christmas by Stephanie Rowe

Get your copy HERE!!!

ABOUT:

Only a deathbed promise would send Jaimi Hamilton to Rogue Valley for Christmas to track down her brothers, the nine Stockton cowboys who don’t even know she exists.

When Sheriff Dane Wilson discovers the vulnerable, sassy single mom from New England has a secret connection to the cowboys he considers his brothers, the protector side of him kicks in…but whose side is he supposed to be on?

When a wintry first kiss raises the stakes, suddenly there’s more than just family at risk.

A Real Cowboy for Christmas is a short, fun read packed with big, rugged cowboys and the women who love them. This is a quick read, following Jaimi and her little girl, Emily on a trip to Rogue Valley to make good on a deathbed promise.

What she finds instead is a hot Sheriff with a lifelong connection to the men with whom she also shared a connection. Dane, he was the STAR of the story. Handsome with a hint of that alpha protectiveness that makes a girl’s knees go weak, he had a killer smile and a way of quickly putting the skittish Jaimi at ease. I just wanted to wrap my arms around him and never let go.

For those of you who take issue with insta-love, you’re not going to like this story even though it was absolutely perfect. They didn’t have a lot of time, so they did what adults do; make a decision and hope for the best.

A big, rambunctious family is how all little girls should spend the holidays and the Stockton clan was as big and boisterous as families came.

A very good and super fast read that pulled me right in and didn’t let me go until the story was over.

A Real Cowboy Knows How to Kiss

Review ~ Cowboy Christmas Blues – Maisey Yates

Get your copy HERE!!!

ABOUT:

When Cooper Mason left Gold Valley, Oregon behind him eight years ago, he told himself he wouldn’t be back. But when a Christmas promise sends him home to face his demons, he’ll find that not everything is as he remembers—especially family friend Annabelle Preston, who’s somehow morphed from childhood pest to full-grown, hot-blooded and oh-so-tempting woman.

Growing up, Annabelle had built a lot of dreams around the ruggedly gorgeous Cooper—dreams she’s long ago learned to put behind her. Until a chance encounter with Cooper leads to a night neither can forget, and all the old feelings come blazing back to life. Now, Annabelle has a week to prove there’s more between them than a no-strings holiday fling…and with a little Christmas luck, she just might convince Gold Valley’s favorite cowboy to come home for good.

We all know that I super biased towards author, Maisey Yates. Her Copper Ridge series is fantastic so you know when I found out she’d discovered more hot cowboys in Gold Valley, I was all over that. And she starts with a really good one!

This introductory novella was the perfect Christmas bite!

Annabelle has always had it bad for Cooper Mason. She followed him around as a kid because he was her hero. Her one true love. But Mason left Gold Valley and has hardly come back or looked back in years. Of course, he has his reasons—pretty damn good reasons—but this year he’s back to spend time with his family. And the town who won’t let his family forget their biggest tragedy.

One night at the only watering hole in town he spots her. A sexy little number he could lose himself in for the night…only after a super hot orgasm does he realize who she is.

DRAMA, y’all!

So that’s Cowboy Christmas Blues in a nutshell but that’s just what happens. This story is fun and a little bit sad, and filled with holiday hope. Annabelle is all grown up and she wants Cooper for herself. Or just while he’s in town. The point is she wants him and watching her try to navigate new feelings mixed with the old hero worship and his own warnings against developing feelings for him, was exciting. A casual, hot affair is just what she thinks she wants or needs, but come on, who can keep it casual when your childhood crush is tall, dark, handsome and just a little bit broken?

Certainly not me, and definitely not Annabelle either!

There were some great secondary characters that I look forward to getting to know better, but if the rest of the stories are anything like Cowboy Christmas Blues, then there are many more cowboys in my future!
